Scripture for Tough Times
Psalm 37:3-5,7,9 – Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the LORD will possess the land. (NLT)
Psalm 40:1-3, 17 – I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be astounded. They will put their trust in the LORD. As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord is thinking about me right now. You are my helper and my Savior. Do not delay, O my God. (NLT)
Psalm 60:12 – Through God we shall do valiantly, and it is He who will tread down our adversaries!
Isaiah 41:10 – Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
2 Corinthians 1:3-5 – All praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the source of every mercy and the God who comforts us. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. You can be sure that the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. (NLT)
2 Corinthians 10:5 – We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
Philippians 4:5-7 – The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:18 – And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power and love and self-discipline. (NLT)
The Lord cannot do much with a dejected soul. Therefore, Satan will attempt to push you into despair and hopelessness over your condition. His goal is to magnify and give a false interpretation to your problems – making them seem too heavy to bear. But, Satan only wants to get you focused on anything other than Christ. However, you do not have to listen to Satan! If you attitude is negative, you are simply believing his lies.
Walking by faith in Christ is not an emotional feeling. Walking by faith is something you choose to do, and then set your mind on it. It is entirely possible to control the focus of your mind. Many times, we don’t experience victory because we don’t feel like it. Instead, we must get up and walk in the complete assurance and firm conviction that God has taken care of the situation whether we feel like it or not.
You may think you are coming up with thoughts of depression, selfishness, etc. But, in reality, they are not your thoughts! They are from Satan…the one trying to condemn you. In Christ, you must recognize these wrong thoughts, reject them, reckon yourself dead to them, and rest – safe, secure, and strong in Christ…whether you feel it or not. Take confidence that God is bigger than anything, and He is working in unseen ways right now to restore you and show His glory through your life!
