The Power of a Praying Christian Single

You may have heard the saying: ‘Prayer is a Christian walking stick, to walk with God’. As a Christian single, you have the ‘faith- advantage’ over singles in the secular world, especially if you believe that God directs our affairs and life.

Prayer is an essential part of a Christian’s life. It helps us in our relationship with God. Therefore, to be victorious in your life, which includes finding and meeting the right partner, you must learn how to use the Bible as the authority to overcome trials and Satan’s temptations. Prayer sustains us; it keeps us going and gives us strength to cope with anxiety and disappointments.

We can take encouragement in knowing that God hears and answer prayers on any and every issue that affects us. If we pray in faith, trusting in him and believing that he will hear our prayers, He will give us his peace in every situation.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, we know that prayer is important as he taught us to always pray to our father, who takes delight in hearing from us.

You don’t need to worry about what to say when you come to God. He knows your thoughts and what you needs, just as Jesus assured us when he says…’Your Father knows what things you have need of before you ask him.’ (Matthew 6:8) Does this mean we should not pray? The answer is No.

The Bible mentioned prayer over 500 times and 20 mentions of pray/prayer by Jesus throughout his teachings. Jesus teaches us that prayer is an essential part of our relationship with God. Jesus himself prayed on many occasions recorded in the Bible and teaches us how to pray. (Matthew 6:9-13)

In the Bible, we read about the story of how Isaac found his wife in Rebecca. Abraham’s senior servant was given the task of finding a wife for Isaac, Abraham’s son. In this significant singles and dating event, Abraham’s senior servant, who is conversant of the faith of his master, prayed to his master’s God. ” And he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, I PRAY thee, send me good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Abraham. Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city comes out to draw water: And let it come to pass that the damsel to whom I shall say, let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she says Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac”- Genesis 24:12-14.(KJV). God heard his prayer and he encountered Rebecca. As they say, the rest is history.

Talking to friends, pastor and relative may help, but only God has the true solution. For He only knew the best for you: ‘For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ – Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

God may not answer our prayers as we want and sometimes when we ask for things, his answer may be to wait or the answer may even be no to a specific request. God sees the bigger picture, so trust in Him.

The example of Abraham servant’s faithful prayer should encourage us to believe that God will also answer your prayers concerning finding the right partner. The servant had a big task to find a wife for the son of his master Abraham. He didn’t try to do it in his own power or cleverness, but rather, he trusted God to accomplish the task. We must cling on to the promises in God’s word.

The Bible offers numerous examples of prayer for the right partner. So, be encouraged. God wants to hear your prayers and he will answer them. ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’ (Philippians 4:6-7)

Prayer is a powerful weapon that sets us free from all afflictions of our heart, mind, and emotions.

If you think that praying to God to meet the right partner is not worthy of your time and effort, think again. It is about time you consider casting this burden onto Him. Trusting God for everything including finding a partner should never be just a heart and head issue. It is also a faith issue.
