great way to judge the quality relationship with others is to look at your relationship with God so if you know guys welcome back to my channel today I’m here with my boyfriend Cory and we’re coming to y’all with a quick video on five ways to keep God in your relationship this is great for people who are in relationships or anyone who’s single just kind of get a different perspective on you know Christian relationships first and foremost we’re not perfect we do stumble at times but this is just what we strive towards and this is what we want to accomplish and this is just some of our daily goals so if you do fall short in any of these areas that’s perfectly fine we all fall short and we’re not going to sit here and add look we’re perfect because we’re not so if you haven’t seen our video on our courtship how we met tips for long distance and I will link that video below so make sure to check that out but we’re going to get right into the five tips to keep God in your relationship our first tip is to put God first one of the things that we do is you just talk about God you know talk about God keep him involved in conversation that you have for us long distance conversations is a huge part of what we do we have a lot of conversations so when you’re having conversations and I got into it by talking about I’m talking about his word and let that be consistent in the beginning we put God first so that’s that the precedents for relationship we started off heavily in prayer we’re going to talk about that a little bit later I’m just very much so seeking God and seeking his approval and his guidance throughout our relationship so even in regards to our relationship we put God first so we try and kind of make that the theme for our relationship and we just do that throughout every aspect when you’re putting God first that is putting God before yourself and before your partner so sometimes I could be difficult because you want to make your partner the pinnacle of you know of your life or the relationship but God really does have to come first sometimes that may mean he’s been in a little bit of less time on each other or on yourself to really give that time to God you put that first God has a lot of emphases in the word about first and first fruits the first of our increase the first of your day the first of your week first of the year you know and with our New Year’s resolutions and things that we want to do so putting God first is going to be critical so our second tip would just be praying prayers huge I remember we first got together I would not pray out loud to him one time when he was driving to the airport he was like yeah you know can you just go ahead and pray for us or something along those lines I would say it was like 10 to 15 minutes of silence and I was trying for know just like so nervous because I feel like it can be really awkward trying to pray in front of somebody especially somebody new but I think that prayer has really helped us in our relationship because you know it really exposes our hearts you know for exactly where they are and he can see more so of where I’m coming from when I do pray and when I’m able to express myself in that way I like to keep up for a journal I will write as if I’m writing to God and that helps me because I’m a lot better at writing that I am at necessarily speaking all of my words are all of my thoughts so sometimes I’ll read my prayers to him just so we can have understanding because I just think that prayer really helps us to get to know each other as well as incorporate God in our relationship a few things I would say about prayer is one with any aspect of your spiritual relationship with God should have one independent of your relationship so with prayer you should have your own prayer light and those two separate intimate relations with God coming together is what’s important so second I think prayer with your partner is good because it takes a lot of pressure off of YouTube so a lot of things that I want for Leah Leah has to know that those aren’t necessary things I can do for her she knows that her help comes from the Lord you know I’m a good support of God I can help direct and do those type of things but the help that she truly needs will come from the Lord and not not for me so when good things do happen when her spirit is lifted you know the criticals or credits doing that’s the God and vice versa she does the exact same same thing for me the third thing I would say about incorporating prayer you can pray for your partner when you’re not with your partner I think it’s very critical that at times in the relationship you pray for them but there may be communication barriers so I think it’s important to pray for your partner especially when they’re not around to help lift them up in those times our third tip would be to create some boundaries and some guidelines so they were boundaries and guidelines just set things in place put it down on paper have some intentional things that you want to do that’s going to help keep God in the relationship understand I think that does the things that our other sinful nature things that you feel conviction about God I actually want to live in those things and put specific outlines around it just makes them habits make some routines that are of God that you intentionally put in your day whether it be prayer at a certain time whether it be reading scripture at a certain time or anything like that our next one is when you stumble don’t hesitate to turn back to God so for me I think that this one is huge because when you’re in a relationship you guys we will stumble um it’s inevitable there will be times when you and your significant other argue that you guys don’t see eye to eye and there going to be times when you’re offended and that you act out of character you say things that you regret saying it happens when two different people are coming together who are completely different communicate differently and just are different people but when you stumble and when you make mistakes it’s important to not further distance yourself from God because the illusion is that we are super far from God in those moments but God is still there he’s still tangible we can still pray to Him and receive help but in those moments we feel so filled with negativity and bad emotions that we just don’t really see turning to God as an option so having that sort of encounter can last a long time if you don’t stop it when you get angry or upset that feeling can just take root and grow and grow and grow so I think turn to God as soon as you make a mistake let’s say y’all have something that you has agreed that you wouldn’t do whatever maybe let’s say you’re trying to eat healthy and like us we had a biscuit today we both had a biscuit we’ve been trying so healthy and working out right but we had a biscuit today are we gonna keep eating bad just because we open that door no we’re gonna try not to eat biscuits tomorrow you know what I’m saying yeah and even with a biscuit analogy but we can’t eat a biscuit say well the day is over I can’t go to the gym now eating a biscuit I’m hypocrite we don’t do those things if I believe that though we stumble we will not fall because the Lord holds us by the N and if you look in the Bible one of the first stories the first chapters we’re looking at Adam and Eve after they sinned after they ate of the fruit the next thing is they got ashamed they felt ashamed and they hid themselves from God what’s important to remember is what happened next is that God came searching for them in the garden so no matter what you do no matter how far you fall God is always searching there for you so don’t ever feel like you’re in a place that you can’t go back to God or let me clean myself up then go back to God or let me get in a better mood then go to God if you have the strength to think of God in those moments and you will because he’ll be there for you reach out to him don’t be afraid to take his hand in those moments anything God knows that we’re imperfect so I think that a lot of times people get to the place of just trying to put on their best clothes or church clothes and just really put their best foot forward all the time but God knows you he knows your thoughts he knows your habits he knows you so when you make a mistake he already knows that you made it so just turn to him give it to him and just keep looking forward yeah and a good judge of those times is to see how you feel if you feel ashamed and that’s not of God there’s no excuse to do things that we shouldn’t do but when God is talking to you it’ll be more of a conviction it’ll be a very gentle nudge to say hey you should have done that and when you feel that conviction you know that’s God and you know he’s there when you feel shame that’s not God whatever you’ve done should never feel ashamed you should never feel that condemnation because of what Jesus did all of our sins are already forgiven and we can use that as in a free pass to do ever want or we could be thankful for God what he did and use that as a motivation to do better to honor the sacrifice that he made for us and accept that forgiveness and walk in grace the choice is yours the choice is yours like you come down and it is also important to remember that with accepting that grace for ourselves it’s also important that you have to I bet grace for others have that graceful other just be able to give that forgiveness that’s the hard part right because if you in the midst of an argument nobody deserves your forgiveness because you’re right in their wrong they don’t deserve your forgiveness you know they don’t deserve your grave the ones who are undeserving are all of us of God’s grace and God’s forgiveness but since we have it anyway let’s do our best to give it to others as well especially your partner so our last tip is to choose to love like Jesus so to me that means just to choose righteousness to choose love and not to choose hate this kind of goes hand-in-hand with the last point but when you’re in a space where you’re really angry and you’re really frustrated you have a choice to make am I going to give this a God and move forward or my going hold on to it and go deeper and deeper into this emotion that I’m dealing with and the easy choice to make is to stay stuck where you are the difficult choice to make is to turn to God in your anger in your frustration to say god I need your help because I can’t deal with this on my own that’s when things are difficult but when you make that choice and you choose that choice every single day things become more easy and I think that is important to just choose to love people because God loves you and that’s not the way that we’re necessarily taught that’s not the way that the world would have you to think but that’s the way to keep God in your relationship and keep God at the forefront of your life when you choose him over the world when the world fleet choice is the easy option you choose God anyway they one of the misconceptions with this topic is temptation we think of temptation a lot as something that we feel in to do that we shouldn’t do something that we may find pleasure and that we shouldn’t do but it’s important to know you can also be tempted to be angry you can also be tempted to be upset you could be tempted to hold unforgiveness in your heart and so especially when you’re offended especially when we take offence it can be very tempting to stay in a bad mood but the Bible tells us that the law will not allow us to be tempted more than we can bear so when it feels like I can’t forgive them this is unforgivable or when somebody does this I can be entitled to be upset because did you see that they did or do you hear what they said well the Bible says that the Lord always gives us a way out he will not allow us to be tempted more than we can bear so when you do see that glimmer of hope when you do see that small faint light shining through reach for grab it and hold on to it and make the choice every single day to forgive and to show grace right to put God first because in a relationship you would think that the person would never offend you but they would never do it but people are imperfect and they make mistakes all the time and it does have a lot to do with expectations and the importance of you know of all these things kind of put together is your expectations should be in the Lord what we can expect from people is what we expect from ourselves I can’t expect Leah to treat me perfectly to react to me perfectly to accept my shortcomings perfectly or anything like that because I’m not perfect it’s a godly expectation that’s the difference just really knowing what expectations you can put on your significant other versus what expectation you can put on God more often than not you’re going to want to put on God because when you start expecting so much that gives so many opportunities for disappointments for letdowns like dang he should have known that’s why Z or oh we should have known that Sonny well shouldn’t he have you know can he read your mind I think that is so easy to be offended and to fall short in those areas but you can God in your relationship helps to do semis all of the arguments like you can’t talk about God and be mad at the same time but last that you talk about God the last issue involved on your relationship the more you’re going to be reactive to the world on what’s going on around you so for us we really try and focus on these things incorporating prayer putting God first you know loving like God because if I love like myself why would I need to grow this will be it this would be how I’m gonna be this is how he’s gonna be either you’re gonna deal with it or I’m gonna have to deal with it you know but when you love like Jesus it’s not all on him it’s not all on me we’re both striving to move forward and to become better because we have a lot of shortcomings don’t let us being behind YouTube fool you we’re just two regular people right so I think that keeping God in the relationship is the key to the relationship so these are just a few of our tips to keep God in your relationship leave a comment below if you are in a relationship or
